Event description
Event date: 16 June 2022, 16:00–17:15 CEST
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) co-developed the global standard for the accessibility of telehealth services, which consists of a list of technical requirements that telehealth platforms must satisfy to ensure accessible telehealth service provision. During the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth services have been increasingly in use in multiple countries. Nevertheless, persons with disabilities still experience difficulties accessing and using such services. This launch event of the newly devised global standard will base all requirements on the best available evidence and feedback collected from civil society and the industry. The requirements are intended to be adopted by member states as regulations or legislation, and should also be voluntarily implemented by healthcare professionals and manufacturers.
